Sketch Prompt: Mi Familia

A memory, Uncle Cyril, 1978, London, UK.

Envision how your photo will look by sketching and coloring a picture of where you might want to place your loved one in a picture. Is it off to the right or the left, what is in the background? Draw as many details as you can. It doesn’t matter if you don’t make an exact copy of the sketch for your final photo, but at least you go into the photo with some kind of planning.

First Photo Challenge: Mi Familia

My daughter, Zoe, at Manzanita Beach, OR June 23rd, 2019.

For this first photo challenge, you will use your phones to take a picture of a family member or loved one, someone you consider to be family to you. tkae it with your phone, and show the love you have for this person by placing them in the frame in a way that shows that love. By using a filter that shows off the qualities about that person you love the most.

THE PHOTO DOES NOT HAVE TO BE OF A PARENT, OR EVEN A FAMILY MEMBER, THE PHOTO COULD BE OF A PERSON YOU CONSIDER TO BE FAMILY.

Look through the photos you have on your phone for other pictures of this person, did you show your love for them in the way you framed them in the shot? What could you do differently?

Photo will be due on Friday, 1/31 into Google Classroom. Photos must be taken between now and the end of the period on Friday, 1/31. No previously taken photos, please.

Today’s Warm Up: The best photo you ever took

A screenshot from my Instagram account of some photos took back in December.

My current favorite is this one:

Why I like it: As a photo teacher, I know that I used the rule of thirds in this photo, so my daughter Zoe isn’t placed in the middle, but off center, to the right.

I love how in focus she is. I like the look on her face, I like that we get her looking away from the camera, not at the camera at all. I love this part of the beach, it’s Manzanita, and Neakahnie mountain is right behin, and I love the lines in the sand. I love the filter I used. I made this photo using the Hipstamatic photo app. I love the patters in her shirt and how different they are to the rest of the photo, that contrast pleases me. Also it’s of my daughter, its frozen time. She is now almost a year older than she was in this shot .

Look through your Instagram. Choose your favorite picture. Then write a paragraph about why you like it. Post the photo and the paragraph to your visual journal.

Warm up is due today, 1/30

To Do List for Today, 1/29

Learning objectives:

I can work with my table mates in order to create an Exquisite Corpse.

I understand the rules for this class.

Step by Step:

  1. In groups work on the Exquisite Corpse Project.
  2. Take a photo of your group’s creation.
  3. Upload it to your visual journal.
  4. Strong will go over the rules of this class.
  5. We will play Kahoot.

Today’s Activity: Exquisite Corpse

Above is an example of Exquisite Corpse

Exquisite corpse (Exquisite cadaver (from the French term cadavre exquis, is a collaborative drawing game invented by the Surrealists, where head, torso, and legs (top, middle, bottom) are created by three people, each drawing their part, without seeing what the others have drawn, on a section of folded paper.)

In groups of three, at your tables, you will have one sheet of paper, fold this exactly in three different ways so that the top bottom and middle are all the same size.

First person sketches and colors with sketch pencils and colored pencils. Then pass it to the person next to you. Do this until all three sections are filled out. You can do more than one per table.

After we finish with that, talk about how each part of the drawing reflects the artist who drew it.

Then take a picture of your group’s picture and post it to your visual journal.

Sketch Prompt: New Beginnings

A sketch I made, playing around with the concept of New Beginnings.

Before:

For today’s class opener, you will spend 10-15 minutes making a sketch. your prompt will be New Beginnings. I will say it doesn’t matter if you can’t draw, only that you put down what is in your head, what goes on in your mind when you think about new beginnings and a camera?

Take a picture of your sketch, and upload it to your Google Drive. You can get the app on your phone.

After:

With an elbow partner, discuss what came up in your drawing. How does what you drew in your picture relate to what happened with you and digital photography before?

Tips: If you are struggling with the drawing aspect, start with basic shapes. If you turn the pencil sideways, you can do shading like I did in this image. Try to capture what is in your head, and be kind to yourself, my picture is no masterpiece, but I get what’s in my head down on the page.

Next Up: Exquisite Corpse
